Remember When Pinterest was a Thing?

I remember going on Pinterest back in 2012, after a friend of mine had joined. She raved about how much she loved it because of all the ideas it had. My home girl was into design, marketing and graphics artwork so it was essentially her planning playbook. I was excited to join but also confused with all the pictures... because it was a lot going on.

Wasn't sure what to do with the pics, as they kept scrolling up on the screen rapidly and I mismanaged the website. As a person who was pretty savvy with navigating social media platforms, this one became a bit of a blur. There was even a slight bit of insecurity that I noticed within myself as I attempted to think of creative ways to conjure up new boards. I was honestly discouraged.

Now, I know you are probably wondering, "How were you getting discouraged on Pinterest?!" Well, to be honest, I didn't really know at the time who I was...or should I say, who I was becoming. When people tell you, "you are so much like....(fill in some other woman's name)" , you can actually start to internalize that belief. Traits of that person can even flow through you as you have been 'pinned' with a personality unlike the one God created you to have. I flow freely, always have. But as a conservative household little girl, I only knew to be certain ways based on what I was taught and followed through observation. Ultimately, I didn't feel like I was 'allowed' to be me.

When you feel those feelings, it can begin to translate into other areas of your life, as well as the things you do; even if it is a simple thing like creating a Pinterest board. Once I began to spend time with God, read the scriptures, and develop a sense of self by removing old lies that I thought to be true about myself, then I was able to create from passion and a truthful place of being EBONY.
